PokerStars has been around for quite a while now and during the last couple of weeks tension was rising as the Isle-of-Man based company was about to deal its 40 billionth poker hand. This milestone finally occurred on February 19, and the poker site celebrated in style with major cash prizes.
40 Billion Poker Hands
Although PokerStars is very active in the live poker tournament circuit, online poker is still its core business. In September of 2001 the first hand ever was dealt in its virtual poker room, and now 9 successful years and 40 billion poker hands later PokerStars is on top of its game.
February 19 was the day that the milestone poker hand hit the felt of a $2/$4 no-limit hold'em table. All the players at that table were at the right place at the right time as PokerStars credited their accounts with juicy cash prizes.
Cash Prizes
Swedish player 'Senecady' is the winner of the milestone pot and raked in a $24,000 cash prize and the $350 that was in the pot. The other players at the table got cash rewards based on the number of points they had collected in the past 40 hands, with prizes ranging from $1,500 to over $15,000.
Apart from the legendary 40 billionth hand PokerStars rewarded another 400 milestone hands in the run-up to the final bang. The celebrations cost the poker room a hefty $779,000 that was dished out to 2,200 lucky players over eight consecutive days.
