Natural (Game) Selection

The online casino industry is no longer what it used to be, and if you ask me, it’s changed for the better.

In the early days – a few years from now – online casinos were littering the web with annoying little flash banners all over the place, wherever you went.

Some were spamming aimlessly like there was no tomorrow, and in the history of online casinos, some have even resorted to foul play – cheating their customers of their hard-earned winnings or even “fixing” the games (none of those ever listed on this site, mind you.) Thankfully, you don’t happen upon sites like this too often, thanks to natural selection.

Customers tend to favor the most honest and reliable service providers, and no exception is made for the gambling business. With the plethora of discussion-forums and the like, players have each other covered by reporting any irregularities instantly, and any casino found to be dishonest is taken down almost straight away.

In all honesty, some casino sites still look like Christmas trees and my spam filter will catch the occasional bogus newsletter with a casino name attached to it, but by and large, the industry has managed to clean up its act pretty well. Some online casinos are even making a name for themselves nowadays by donating to charity, like 888.com, or planting a tree for every new customer, like Casino Del Rio.

A little bit of moderation in the PR-effort can go a long way, it seems, as the casinos that focus more on goodwill and less on spamming actually get more traffic and more loyal customers. The gambling business will probably never be entirely “normal”, however. It will always have a taste for the sensational – but that’s just the nature of the game, I guess.
