Swimming Leads to Drowning

How can swimming be allowed when the dangers involved are so well-documented? New legislation must be introduced hastily to prevent children and their pets from drowning.

Language is a fantastic thing, but when it comes to making seemingly reliable assertions, language is even more deceitful than statistics.

Every day or so, some newspaper announces that online poker leads to addiction. It is then inferred that online poker is no good, that it ought to be forbidden or at least more strictly regulated.

We know that online poker has a backside.

However, in this respect it is no different from wine, television, food or a number of other things. Things that satisfy certain needs but will hurt us if we let them get out of hand.

Millions of people around the globe enjoy online poker. It’s a form of entertainment that puts a broad range of our abilities to the test. It can be deeply satisfying and a lot of fun. Sometimes the poker hobby may even give a few dollars back.

So where do all these blackening articles come from? Actually, what does the critical mission for journalists consist of?

Does “critique” mean that you should always point out the backsides of things without putting them beside their corresponding benefits? Where’s the benefit of that?

You get my drift. Poker is good and bad, just like a pair of chorizos with a mountain of mashed potatoes. Control your online poker so it doesn’t control you.

Play online poker the good way, enjoy yourself, and stay away from the swimmingpool!
