The Prospect of Swim-in Blackjack
Have you seen those pictures of people swimming in a pool while playing chess? The board is put up on a narrow table just above the water surface. The players and their audience (mostly older men) hang around with just their heads sticking up from the water. The pictures are usually from Hungary; the country has a strong chess tradition and natural hot springs.
Combine these pictures with the news reports on a planned expansion of floating casinos in the Indian province of Goa, and what do you get? Of course, a swim-in casino.
How about that? Imagine yourself in an azure blue pool, sipping on a long drink under a torrid sun. Imagine paddling over to a floating blackjack table under a straw roof and engage in a serious card-counting spree (preferably without murmuring), all the while the sun caresses the palm leaves and the ice melts away in your drink. Am I the only one to find this idea pretty damn compelling?
Jessica likes the idea of a torrid sun, that’s for sure. She’s going away to warmer latitudes to do some swimming, leaving a lone blogger behind. I’ve asked her to bring home a water-proof casino kit so we can set up our own swim-in blackjack. I’ll be a real sweetheart and let her do all the swimming and drinking. Hey, I’ll even be the bank for her.
