Soon you can be a CSI Investigator in Vegas!
July 30, 2009
Do you watch CSI? Then you’re going to love this! The MGM Grand Hotel is going to have an interactive CSI exhibit for you to go play around in. It isn’t open yet, but I’ve been told by those in the know it could be open as early as late August. EMS Exhibits, under licensing by CBS Consumer Products is producing the attraction at the MGM Grand. This exhibit will give you the opportunity to play the crime scene investigator using real live techniques to do it. At your disposal will be two state-of-the-art crime labs to tinker around with the evidence and crack the case. Of course, the investigators from the TV show will be virtually there to help you along. When you arrive, cast members from the TV show will welcome you by video, then lead you through your important investigation and evaluate your ... Read the full blog post...

Clint Holmes Back by popular demand, the smooth, charismatic Clint Holmes returns to the Suncoast Showroom in An Evening of Romance with Clint Holmes, musically directed by Bill Fayne, August 28, 29 and 30. Audiences can look forward to hearing a variety of songs with the shared theme of romance. Tales From The Rails
Since I spent both Friday and Saturday nights Downtown, I decided to spend Sunday hanging out on The Strip. I jumped on the Monorail at the Sahara station en-route to the MGM Grand, and as I was buying my dollar locals pass, I struck up a conversation with the booth monkey. While most monorail booth monkeys are rude, contemptuous, or indifferent creatures … this particular young lady was actually quite nice. I almost feel bad calling her a “booth monkey”, but I've grown to love the monikers that I have invented. They are each like one of my cherished glue-sniffing children. I know that self-important titles are all the rage these days, so maybe I should reconsider my description of other people's occupations. Perhaps “senior monorail ticket engineer” is more appropriate. In any event, while the booth monkey (sorry, it just flows better) was filling out the eight hundred pages of paperwork in order ... A Trip Back to My Gambling Roots

The Strip vs. Downtown. For the past ten years, this debate has pitted friend against friend, brother against brother, countrymen against countrymen. It has split up families and has been responsible for countless wars. Two involving nukes. Few people know this, but the Fremont Street vs. Las Vegas Boulevard debate was the original cause of disharmony in the Middle East. These days, I'm Switzerland. I like both Vegas entertainment jurisdictions pretty much equally at this point. I don't think I would be completely satisfied with just one or the other, and I tend to split actual gaming time between the two places pretty evenly. I spend more raw minutes on The Strip, though, because it just takes longer to get from one place to another. I can actually game in the Plaza, Binion's, and Golden Nugget within the same hour, but it would take me three times as long to play 10 hands each at the Sahara, ... Read the full blog post...
For Lady's Only, sort of

When I went to see the comedian Todd Paul at Hooters a couple of weeks ago, there was a cool warm up act. It was a couple of the guys from Men of X show which happens right after Todd Paul’s show in the same theater. They were awesome dancers and I wanted to go see some more of them. I asked my buddy, Jody, if he wanted to go and he said, “Sure!” So Jody and I met up at Hooters to see the Men of X. What we very quickly realized is that this was no ordinary dance show. This was billed as Burlesque and poor Jody was the one and only guy in the audience. It was all girls in line. They were giddy and excited girls with lots of bosoms showing. I’m afraid I had taken Jody to a ... Read the full blog post...
Satisfying My Downtown Vegas Fetish
July 25, 2009
Fortunately (or unfortunately depending on your point of view), the “party pit” trend in Las Vegas continues unabated. Last night, I checked out Downtown's two newest offerings. The Las Vegas Club's “Fetish Pit” and The Plaza's “Aqua Pit”. Frankly, I did not know that the LVC's pit even existed until this week. I was alerted to its presence via a thread on my forums (thank you Chuck R.), and since I had planned on being Downtown on Friday night anyway, I felt it my civic duty to check the place out. Like many other girlie pits, the Fetish Pit was located at the entrance to the casino in order to snag male passersby. This tactic seemed to work to reasonable effect, as there was a fairly good amount of men rotating in and out of the tables. Never underestimate the power of Boobjack. I grabbed a seat at the “naughty nurse” table, and was ... Read the full blog post...
Vegas Local wins Million on Wheel of Fortune Slot
This month the Cannery had two jackpot slot winners and guess what? They were both locals! That'll teach the tourists to cut back on their Las Vegas vacations! Las Vegas local, Helen Jenner, hit the $1,058,092.24 jackpot Thursday evening while playing a Wheel of Fortune slot machine at The Cannery. An awful lot of people I talk to just love that Wheel of Fortune machine, my relatives included. They say they win more playing that. But anyway, that is more than a million frickin' dollars! Can you imagine? I would happily volunteer to take that extra 'change' off her hands to make it an even, cool million, you know? “We are very pleased that one of our regular guests to the Cannery Casino hit such a big jackpot on one of our Wheel of Fortune machines,” said Josh Killian, director of marketing for Cannery Casino & ... Fiddling While Vegas Burns
July 24, 2009
When I started “blogging” (for lack of a better word), my intent was to be able to write my blog in a vacuum if I so desired. What this meant was that if every other Vegas website, blog, newspaper, TV station, PR department and wire service went out of business and completely vanished overnight … I would be able to continue my blog more or less as-is. I would not be at the whim of slow news weeks and reports from other people. I could walk out my front door with a camera, a laptop, a few bucks and a bottle of penicillin and do my own thing in a complete informational void. What I came back with may or may not be even remotely interesting, but at least it was my own. I think I have at least partially succeeded. I certainly don't sit around and wait for news to break ... Tooling around Fabulous Las Vegas
July 23, 2009
So, you hit Las Vegas and think, “Wow, I need a car to hit all the casinos!” Well, you don’t really. It would be nice if we had some sort of reasonable public transportation here, but we don’t. The monorail does not go to the airport and it really isn’t all that far from the strip. Yeah, go figure, long story there. Most of the casinos you are going to want to see are on the strip or on Fremont Street. And you’ll probably be staying one place or the other. The rest of them are pretty much locals places, or when you check in to the ones far away, you’ll want to stay right there. But, let’s say you’re adventurous and you are going to rent a car. Let me explain what driving in Las Vegas is like. It is ... Read the full blog post...
The Real Fremont Street
July 22, 2009
The photos you see on this page were taken on what is arguably the most famous street in Las Vegas, and as far as world-renowned streets are concerned … it's certainly up there. Even though it is almost a household name, most people have never actually traversed this famous thoroughfare. Sure, everyone is familiar with the four block stretch under the canopy, and the two block “Fremont East” district, but that's all for show. Given the fact that cars cannot drive in most of the resort area, what most people know as “Fremont Street” is hardly a street at all. It's just the name of a pedestrian mall. So, what of the “street” part of Fremont? Does it even exist? If so, where does it go, and what does it look like? Let's face it, once one gets past 8th street, Fremont becomes a mystery for all but the most ardent explorers of Vegas. It's an ... Read the full blog post...
