Halloween Night On The Las Vegas Strip

November 2, 2008

I hit The Strip last night, and there was plenty of action to be found.

When I want to find the goofiest crowd possible on any given holiday, I typically head to the Carnival Court between Harrah’s and Imperial Palace.

For some reason, the place just attracts the nuttiest tourists in all of Las Vegas.

As usual, the place didn’t disappoint.

I was very lucky to have just missed an altercation in Harrah’s that required ambulances to respond. I can only wonder what the dispute was over.

“Hey, you’re wearing the same costume as I am you bastard … I challenge you to a duel!” That’s more or less how I imagine it went down.

I hit several spots from Harrah’s to Bellagio, and each property had its own unique thing going on.

I was greeted by people that I didn’t know. Outside of Margaritaville, some guy shouted “VegasRex!!!” (another nickname I go by) and jumped off of the little balcony. I figured he was going to stab me or something, but he just wound up giving me a high five. I guess my “disheveled white guy” costume didn’t conceal me quite as well as I thought it would.

There really was a great turnout. The Strip was about as crowded as it gets … save for New Year’s Eve.

I would estimate that maybe 5% of the people were dressed in costume, which all things considered, is a lot of tourists in costume given the raw amount of people crawling The Strip.

Almost everyone was perfectly happy to pose for a picture when I politely asked, and inside the casinos, the mood was decidedly “drunk and happy”.

Outside on the street, the vibe was also fun … although there was still a “thug” element here and there. I witnessed a shouting match or two, but nothing major. A few incidents notwithstanding, most people seemed to be down for just having fun.

The quantity of skimpy costumes were not as prevalent as I have seen them in previous years, but there was enough skin to pitch a tent here and there.

My favorite costume of the night was probably “Penis Man”. Let’s face it, it takes a brave man to walk around Las Vegas looking and acting like a giant dick.

The only person who can usually pull that off in this town is Steve Wynn, so props go to the guy for strapping a giant pair of testicles to his waist and wandering up and down the boulevard.

I hung out at the Harrah’s Piano Bar for a bit, and took a small amount of video before entering (which you can see in the video at the bottom of this post).  The Piano Bar is actually a really fun place to hang out, as you get to make requests, sing along, etc. There is another piano bar in NYNY which is fun as well … but during holiday weekends, the one at Harrah’s often gets a little more silly.

The Flamingo had some kind of “Pussycat Dolls” gambling pit thing going on which was there to promote their show “X Burlesque”, and I watched them dance for a good 20 minutes. (yes, I have video, but that will have to be for another post)

After watching them dance, I decided to gamble. I played some Blackjack in the Flamingo Pussycat X Pit, stared at the dealer’s cleavage, and became so distracted that I actually hit 12 vs. a dealer 6 … but still managed to win the hand when I drew a 3 and the dealer took a 10.

In my defense, I had mentally calculated 7+5 to be “11” instead of “12”, but when you are staring at boobs, numbers are irrelevant.Math or no math, a win is a win.

Tits have always been good luck for me.

You will be pleased to hear that I did not split tens one single time. I was tempted to do so on one hand when the dealer was showing a 5, but I didn’t want to ruin the holiday for the drama-queen tourists.

I walked away from the Flamingo with more cash than I entered with, and got to stare at T&A while winning it … so how could you call it anything but a fantastic night?

All things considered, it was a good Halloween down here on The Vegas Strip.

I hope that yours was equally as fun, wherever you happened to be …
