Double Gold and Double Jackpot at the Rio

February 28, 2009

Nancy, my dad’s wife, was just having a time of it with the slot machines at the Rio. She played the Double Gold for a while but it took her money. I think she’s been spoiled by those river boats she’s been gambling on east of the Mississippi.

I think the second machine in the video is Triple 7 Double Jackpot. That one didn’t like her much more than the Double Gold. And the arm didn’t work.

She has this system where she pushes the button some times and pulls the arm other times. It was making her a little crazy that the arm did not work on this particular machine. She was in slot mode and kept with her routine, then she’d reach up for it and it didn’t move.

We were supposed to be having dinner, but there were slots all around and well, Nancy wasn’t hungry for food. Dad and his in-laws found a place to eat. Unfortunately, that turned out to be the karaoke bar. I had already eaten so I hung out with Nancy and watched her lose her cash.

As we chatted, she inadvertently spilled the dirty family secret. Lynette, that she mentions, is my aunt, my dad’s sister.

A few days later, Nancy told me that she couldn’t win anything at the Rio. And she wasn’t real happy about it, so I don’t know how much she lost there. She did much better downtown on Fremont Street. But then, she had expected to. I had heard that the slots were looser downtown. Now I have proof? I dunno. haha

I did check on Dad now and then. He was sitting there, painfully, waiting on his dinner with his sister and brother-in-law. I went to sit down on a stool but he pointed out that it looked like it had already been in a bar fight. It had a broken support bar and it may or may not have held me. I was going to report it but then figured I’d just sound like a whiner. Dad offered me his stool but I didn’t want to take his stool. So we just stood there looking like fools, neither of us sitting on the good stool. Eventually the karaoke people tried to pierce my ear drums so I went back to video Nancy.

By 11pm, my Dad was pointing at his watch which was on Florida time. He wanted to go to bed. He kept insisting it was the middle of the night. Well, yeah, in White Head town! They went to bed, I went home, but a good time was had by all.
