I Blew into the Silverton one day

December 14, 2008

Valet are of the Silverton

Valet area of the Silverton

We’ve been having quite the dust storm lately in Las Vegas.  I took this opportunity to blow on over to the Silverston and see if the aquarium was as cool as a friend of mine has been telling me.  Everytime I speak with her she asks if I’ve been there yet.  So, I sure didn’t want to deal with that wind on the strip and a trip out to the Silverston sounded like a good idea.

The Silverton

The Silverton

This casino is sort of in the middle of nowhere.  I suppose it is somewhere but for me, a strip and downtown dweller, it seems like nowhere.  Getting there involved the freeway!  Gasp.

Bass Pro Shop

The Casino is snuggled in with the Pro Bass Shop.  Odd, but hey, we are in the middle of nowhereland.

The wind was like a blizzard with no snow.  I took cover in the valet area to take a couple of photos.  Sorry they aren’t better, but I wasn’t going out in that wind even for you.

Santa!

Santa!

Upon entering this season you are greeted by a stuffed Santa.  Looks like the reindeer didn’t make the trip and he had to bike in.

Behind Santa is the entrance to the Bass Pro Shop.  You know, in case you need some hip waders or a fish hook or something.

Over to the left is the casino floor.  It is really quite the homy kind of place.  There is a lot of stone work and wood like a lodge or a cabin in the woods.  I felt like I was in someone’s livingroom.  A very LARGE living room, but a living room or rec room nonetheless.

Mermaid Bar next to Aquarium

But straight ahead was the Mermaid bar.  It is pretty cool in there because it opens up to the aquarium.  You can sit at a table and zone out watching the fish swim around.

Awww, they are texting together

There were a whole bunch of kids there on some supervised trip it looked like.  They were having the time of their lives watching those fish swim around.

Kids & Fish!

Kids & Fish!

As it turns out, there are two things that are just not going to cooperate with me and camera – Kids and Fish.  What a bunch of wiggle worms.

The Silverton looks like a fine place to stay if you’re into the lodge atmosphere.  The aquarium is every bit the sight my friend, Marlene, told me it was.
