Vegas Local wins Million on Wheel of Fortune Slot

July 25, 2009

This month the Cannery had two jackpot slot winners and guess what? They were both locals! That'll teach the tourists to cut back on their Las Vegas vacations! Las Vegas local, Helen Jenner, hit the $1,058,092.24 jackpot Thursday evening while playing a Wheel of Fortune slot machine at The Cannery. An awful lot of people I talk to just love that Wheel of Fortune machine, my relatives included. They say they win more playing that. But anyway, that is more than a million frickin' dollars! Can you imagine? I would happily volunteer to take that extra 'change' off her hands to make it an even, cool million, you know? “We are very pleased that one of our regular guests to the Cannery Casino hit such a big jackpot on one of our Wheel of Fortune machines,” said Josh Killian, director of marketing for Cannery Casino & ... An Afternoon chat with former Bengal John Thornton

July 12, 2009

Today I had the pleasure of speaking with former Cincinnati Bengal’s Defensive Tackle, John Thornton. And if you know me, you’re going, “HUH?” right about now because you know I do not know a thing about football. Well, I dated a semi-pro team owner/Jet’s Scout back when I was young and beautiful, so of course I feel qualified to interview the football guy. I know professional football players are typically the most stand-up people around and they always have some good stuff to talk about. So I asked John if he’d give me the opportunity to interview him. Nice guy that he is, he said yes. First of all, the guy looks a lot bigger on TV. I expected this humongous guy coming at me at full speed, but up strolled a regular looking guy. He totally blended right into the Vegas tourist scene. ... Read the full blog post...

The Legend of Eva Kutcher

June 21, 2009

As you already know, my uncle and aunt have been here in Las Vegas taking in some rest and relaxation for a couple of days. They were staying on the Strip so I took them to Fremont Street on Friday night. They hadn’t been there for a few years so it was time for an updated experience. You probably already suspected this, but I come from a dandy line of women alcoholics. Family gossip continued with my uncle as we shared stories about my grandmother. Grandma pretty much drank off and on and smoked off and on until the day she died. She was a real Mr. Hyde when she drank, but sober she was the sweetest thing alive. My uncle spoke of the story Grandma would tell of why she started drinking in the first place. She was having a hard time keeping up with being a ... Read the full blog post...

Relative Gossip at BlackBerry Thursday

June 19, 2009

It was Blackberry Thursday last night at the Luxor, so I went to go get my fair share. The Luxor clubs have this thing going on called Blackberry Thursdays. Each third Thursday of the month they give you free drinks for a couple of hours and you socialize with others while checking out the club that is hosting the event. I got an email about it and the email said that it was at Noir inside LAX nightclub. So I grabbed my relatives who are in town this week and told them I found them some free drinks on the strip. They were all over that idea. I gave my uncle the rundown on dress code for nightclubs. The nightclubs here are sneakers paranoid, at least it seems that way. Of course, all they brought to Vegas were sneakers. I asked him if ... Read the full blog post...

So then the guy pulls off his leg and throws it

June 11, 2009

First off, I’m in a lot of pain. I just popped a Vicodin so I guess I’m good to go. I have tendonitis of the shoulder. Why? I don’t know. It isn’t like I’d be caught dead exercising or playing a sport. Remember all those Vicodin scripts I got at the dentist that I didn’t need? Well, they are going to good use now! Tonight I finally got a ticket to go see Louie Anderson. I’ve been a fan for a long time and have been meaning to go see his regular show here at the Excalibur. Tonight I finally did it. By the way, Tropicana Street is all torn up. I don’t know what they are doing to it but it involves the middle of the road and machines that are bigger than houses. It looked like most people are ... Downtown Casino Pictures & cute French guys

May 17, 2009

I went Downtown Las Vegas this weekend to have a walk around and take some pictures for you guys. Given there was an event going on, the Helldorado, I expected a big crowd even though it was during the day. There were not as many people there as I thought there would be. There also wasn’t all that much going on under the canopy. I did see some carnival rides off the Fremont Street area, but that was about it. I did check out that free parking area over at Main Street Station. It is indeed covered, which is great for the hot summer days like we’re having now. It seems I was almost the last person to hear about it because I had to drive almost to the top of the ramp to park. Yeah, in the sun, haha, that’ll teach ... Read the full blog post...

Slippery Fellows, Russell Brand and Keith Lyle

May 12, 2009

I’m probably as much a Russell Brand fan as the next girl.  I noticed from following him and some others on Twitter that he is in Las Vegas, and has been for a while now.  I didn’t give that much thought, really.  Then today I got a tip they were filming and I got a clue as to where. So, we’ll call my tipster Betty.  Lately, I like the name Betty.  So she will be called Betty. I could see on Twitter that it wasn’t just Russell Brand on this film shoot, writer/actor Keith Lyle is also someone I’d like to meet and he was there too.  Okay, a two-fer.  I wanted to meet both and I would like to interview both guys, so I deciphered the clue and got in the bloggermobile to check it out. When I found this stuff out, I was sitting in my office on the opposite side ... Read the full blog post...

50 to 1! Insanity!

May 2, 2009

It was time to start betting on horses again. I used to bet on the ponies on occasion when I lived near the Del Mar track in California. The first race I always picked the horse. It sort of went completely downhill from there. I don’t think I ever won a 2nd race, like , ever. I like to look at the horses just before the race. The one with the best flank gets my money. That’s it. I can’t bet on a horse otherwise. I wouldn’t know which one to pick. I have to sit there and watch them walk, then I run to the window to place my bet. It works every time. Well, every time meaning the first race, but then I can’t pick them anymore. Today I went to the Hilton Sports Book to bet on the ... Read the full blog post...

World Series of Slots, part 3

April 20, 2009

The first day of the World Series of Slots at the Golden Nugget was just to register, find out what round you were starting in and a reception.  It was sort of a meet, greet and eat. The second day was started with a continental breakfast and then the actual playing started at 10:30am.  People wandered in and out to watch and then they’d hang around until their time to play.  It was a long day for button pushers.  Their minds were focused on what they’ll do with that tenth of a million dollars when they won.  There didn’t seem to be much strategy talk or psyching out of the opponent happening.  Everyone was excited and friendly. As each elimination ended, the names went up on the big board.  There were many employees with clip boards doubling checking everything. A tech was on stand-by for when someone had a false start or ... Read the full blog post...

World Series of Slots, part 2

April 19, 2009

The World Series of Slots at the Golden Nugget this weekend is a much cooler tournament than I knew.  I thought, well, sign up, push a button for a while and whatever machine was programmed to win is the winner.  This is a little different. I went to the desk and asked a couple questions I had just looking for a quick answer or two.  They went in to a panic and wouldn’t tell me anything.  After a few whispers to the suits, and a couple of phone calls, I had an interview lined up with the Vice President of Marketing, Amy Chasey.  I didn’t set this up ahead of time because I was sure I was only going to have a question or two, if any.  I suppose I don’t blame the event people for not talking, I wouldn’t want my name on an interview for a casino either for ...
