The Greatest Chefs All In One Spot

November 17, 2009

Emeril Lagasse Foundation’s 5th annual “Carnivale du Vin” took place last Saturday at the Venetian in the ballroom. Over seven hundred guests were there to take part in the event and fundraising auctions. Carnivale du Vin raises money each year for children’s charities such as Three Square Food Bank Kid’s Café in Las Vegas and Edible Schoolyard in New Orleans, among others. Chefs from all the over United States were in attendance. I took photos but there were so many famous chefs that I simply became overwhelmed with the task. There were so many and they just kept on coming! Some I recognized immediately, like Emeril Lagasse and Wolfgang Puck. The photographers were lined up directing their poses and the chefs were having a great time talking amongst themselves as they said hello to new and old friends. It was quite the ... The Envy Chef

October 13, 2009

Food, glorious food is what led me to Envy Steak House, a restaurant which operates inside the Renaissance Hotel in Las Vegas. Envy is not a new restaurant in town, it has been there for several years, but it has been newly remodeled. I grabbed my friend, Jessica, and we went to check it out! I did want to give you guys a little bit of a review of the wine, as well. As you know, my drinking career ended in 1991, so I needed to have with me a ‘seeing eye tongue’ to try that wine out for you. Jessica happily obliged. The Renaissance Hotel is the only non-smoking, non-gaming hotel in Las Vegas that I have heard about. So, naturally, it was last on my list of places to visit. Yes, I am still smoking for the moment. All you ... Read the full blog post...

It's here! Flu Spew

June 24, 2009

My Aunt was in town for the past few days, she just left this morning. I was going to go see her at the Bellagio on Monday night but I had come down with a mild flu so I thought I’d better not. I’d really rather not spread viruses on the Strip and ruin people’s vacation. So I quarantined. Yesterday, I was doing great once again so I met up with her on the Strip. The first thing she tells me is that she’s not feeling so good and she had called the gift shop looking for Alka-Seltzer. The lady in the shop let her know she was about the twentieth person to call that morning looking for the same thing. She assumed a whole lot of people were sick with the flu. Nothing spreads a bug faster than people on airplanes. I can’t say ... Read the full blog post...

Feast Buffet

June 14, 2009

I don’t often get out to Green Valley Ranch, but I did yesterday to have dinner with some friends who were in town from Los Angeles.  We’ve eaten at the buffet there before, but I didn’t write about it.  So now I am! We got there early mainly to avoid the lines, and well, because we’re kind of old and that’s what kind of old people do.  Arriving about 5pm we avoided the line.  I think there was maybe one person ahead of us.  It worked great.  Price of admission is $19.95, for dinner. The buffet there is really nicely laid out.  It is very spacious, unlike the Wynn and Bellagio.  The seating areas are sectioned off from each other but more with pillars and stations, making a good use of space but you don’t feel like you’re in a little spot. This is a big room with plenty of stations in ... Read the full blog post...

Love? No, you're not love, I'm Love

April 26, 2009

It was another beautiful day in fabulous Las Vegas today.  The temperature was about 80 degrees and the sun was shining.  I’m glad we got a day of relief from that awful wind.  I’m sure the wind will be back tomorrow, though. My long lost cousin called today.  She’s in Vegas with some friends and asked me to join her at the Monte Carlo Buffet for Sunday Brunch.   I didn’t know the Monte Carlo had a buffet.  I mean, I’m sure they do, don’t they all?  I have never heard anyone mention it.  I was expecting the worst. There didn’t seem to be anywhere to park at the Monte Carlo.  There was a sign that was trying to direct me to something called ‘temporary parking’.  Well, I don’t do temporary.  Well, okay, there was this guy I was crazy about and temporary would pretty much sum up my plan there.  Apparently, temporary ... The very best Buffet in Las Vegas

April 6, 2009

Three Jews agree, this is the very best buffet in Las Vegas.  You know what happens when you ask three Jews their opinion?  You get four opinions.  Not this time.  We were in agreement and there was no 'on the other hand'.  We  ventured out into the boonies of Las Vegas and visited the M Resort.  I'll talk about the M in another post, this  is just on the fabulous buffet, called Studio B. When we arrived at 3:10pm, we saw a line.  We were thinking, "A line in the middle of the afternoon?!"  Yes, a line, and we discussed amongst ourselves.  As it turns out, these were people waiting for them to start accepting  dinner guests at 3:30pm.  By 4pm we were at the cashier and waiting in the next line to be seated.  I looked back  at the line and it hadn't gotten any shorter.  More and more people were ... A win at the Wynn Buffet

March 22, 2009

Oh boy, Buffet!  I love the buffets in Las Vegas.  The eating here is one of the main reasons I moved here.  You can gorge yourself on such good food and it doesn't really cost all that much.  Well, sometimes it doesn't cost all that much, haha.  Some of the buffets are rather expensive at the nicer casinos. This particular trip was to the Wynn Buffet.  I've been to the Bellagio Buffet before, and of course, I was comparing the two the entire time I was in there.  Don't we always do that with the Wynn and Bellagio?  Steve Wynn built them both, so it is hard not to compare. The price for the Wynn Buffet was $29.95 without champagne and $36.95 with champagne.  I don't drink so I passed on the extras. And actually, my friend had a free pass to the buffet and she gave it to me, which was ... Read the full blog post...

Partying Paddys – the Nine Fine Irishmen

March 17, 2009

I went into Nine Fine Irishmen restaurant in New York New York to check out the St. Patty's Day celebrations and also to get a bite to eat. The place is really quite beautiful and seems rather east coast, not west coast at all.  There is very heavy wood mantels in there and some wrought ironwork on the stairway.  As gorgeous as it is, it is still run as an Irish Pub. So don't expect to have a quiet romantic dinner in here, it is party central for all people Irish.  Being part Scottish myself, I almost felt like a traitor by being in there. This restaurant doesn't look like much when you first walk in.  It is gorgeous, yeah, but looks minuscule.  There is hardy any room in there!  But then you realize that a lot of this place is actually upstairs.  An open, turned staircase takes you where most of ... The Yard House

January 4, 2009

I went to check out the new shopping center on Las Vegas Blvd and Sunset the other day.  Once we were done flipping through all the Las Vegas books at Borders, the first order of business was to eat, so we stopped in the Yard House for an early dinner. Even though it was around 3:30pm or 4pm, we did have to wait to be seated.  They told us it would be about twenty minutes but in reality it was more like five minutes.  The person I was with told me they've never seen it so busy in there.  I suppose it was left over New Year's Eve crowd that was filling the place up.  Normally you might not have a wait for a table. The place is fairly modern and it looks like it would be a comfortable place to watch a game.  They have TVs everywhere so you can see ... Read the full blog post...

The Grand Lux Cafe, whichever

December 27, 2008

I know I am a royal pain to go out to dinner with.  Seriously.  Eat with me only if you dare.  I'm going to have to take photos of damn near everything.  I am amazed people will be seen with me at all in a restaurant.  Oddly enough, unlike casino security, the waiters seem to love it. On this particular day, I went to the Grand Lux in the Palazzo.  There are two Grand Lux's.  One is in the Venetian and one in the Palazzo.  After much grilling from my friend Marlene, we came to the conclusion that I had no idea where in the hell I've eaten and I haven't.  But I have had dinner at the Grand Lux on three occasions.  And the bread was spectacular each and every time. Hey, in my defense, I'm a single girl and I do remember WHO I had dinner with each of ... Read the full blog post...
