The Whitman's Sampler of Vegas Performers
August 31, 2009
There was a Michael Jackson Tribute going on at the Pearl inside the Palms on Saturday afternoon. Yeah, yeah, I know, Michael Jackson - I’ve had it up to here with the Michael Jackson crap. I know, me too. But a friend of mine had a ticket he couldn’t use so I went in his place to report back about how all his friends did on stage. The ticket scalpers were very thick inside the Palms. People were grabbing people in line, trying to sell them tickets while they waited to buy tickets. The show was reported to be sold out at one point, but it appeared it was not actually sold out. They had a goal of raising $100,000 for a charity that funds the local music education for kids here. The last I heard they had hit the $75,000 mark. I don’t ... Read the full blog post...
Charo, as entertaining as ever
August 29, 2009
Charo was everyone’s favorite guest on the Love Boat, wasn’t she? Her Cuchi!! Cuchi!!, her thick, Spanish accent, and adorable humor, and well, I suppose those huge boobs had something to do with it, too. I adored her when I was young and watched her on television every opportunity I had. So, Charo is in town, you know. She’s playing a show that is ongoing at the Riviera. Now, your first thought is likely the same as mine, “CHARO?!”, and a chuckle. Then you think about it. You have to see her. I drove by the sign one day when I was plowing down Paradise and made a mental note of “Charo, must see“. Then a few days later I saw an interview she did with Jason Feinberg on our local Fox TV station. Then I was in all kinds of a hurry to ... Read the full blog post...
Vegas can now call Frank Caliendo our own
August 22, 2009
If you don’t know who Frank Caliendo is by name, you know him when you see his photo. Caliendo just signed a ten year contract with the Monte Carlo, so now we get to call him ours! At least for a while. His show starts on October 12th, 2009. You probably know Frank Caliendo from his numerous late night TV appearances. I got hooked on him when he was on MAD TV, may it rest in peace. (I miss that show!) His celebrity impressions are amazing and I don’t even like impressionists! I love to watch this guy, though. His voices are spot on and while you’re watching him, you’ll have to remind yourself you are not actually seeing George W. Bush or Al Pacino. His John Madden will have you in stitches. Madden is fun to make fun of anyway and ... Read the full blog post...
New Comics and New Jokes
August 20, 2009
Bonkerz Comedy Club at the Palace Station Casino offered a free night on Sunday night to showcase the new up and coming comics from their comedy school. I heard Keith Lyle (from the movie Hangover) was going to be up on stage that night trying his hand at flinging the funnies around. I thought maybe I should be there. Actually, I expected to pay. I wasn’t aware it was free admission that night. Bonus round! I love comedy, joke writing and those who do. Comedy is probably my most favorite thing, well, besides chocolate, cute guys and getting a paycheck. I love talking writing and joke writing, so I find myself in one of the Comedy Clubs around Las Vegas from time to time. The turn out was incredible. I was lucky to get there just before 7pm. I was messing around talking ... Read the full blog post...
Saved from the sun by Wayne Brady
August 15, 2009
Today I had the pleasure of meeting Wayne Brady and talking to him a little bit at Azure Pool at the Palazzo. He was celebrating signing on with the Venetian through 2010, for his show, Making Shit Up. But, I guess it is known as Making It Up on the website. He sings, he dances, he does some improvisation. He is spectacular at it all and I want a ticket to the show. He was there today also talking about his new gig as a game show host on a new version of Let’s Make a Deal. This interview was one of those things where the press gathers and waits for the star to arrive. He was supposed to arrive at 1:15pm. I was smart and sat in a small shaded spot by the pool for a while but as it got closer to ... Read the full blog post...
Criss Angel's Believe retake
August 14, 2009
People have been hating on Criss Angel’s show Believe ever since it opened at the Luxor and I have felt it was very much undeserved. I saw the show a few months after its opening and I loved it. Last night I had the opportunity to see this show again. It wasn’t my intention to review the show, but hey, I’m paid by the word so a review is what you’re going to get. I was pleased that the whole ‘confiscate the cameras at the door’ fiasco has ended. The last time I went to this show I had my camera with me, as I always do. They made everyone with cameras line up and bag their cameras and check them. It wasn’t so bad going in, but hundreds of people getting their cameras back on the way out was a nightmare I never want ... Read the full blog post...
And then our Mayor chugged it! Happy Birthday
August 1, 2009
As you may remember, I went to the Las Vegas’s Mayor’s birthday party a couple of weeks ago. I went that night because someone on the news said it was ‘this Friday’. I doubled checked and emailed a news anchor… who shall remain nameless…. But it starts with JA and ends with SON…. And he told me exactly where I should go to attend this party with no mention of it being weeks away. Anyway, after much trial and tribulation, and a kind soul helping me out on Twitter, I discovered it wasn’t that night. His birthday party was going to happen on July 31st. I was a couple of weeks early, terribly rude of me. Thank God for Twitter, I tell ya. So I went to our mayor’s big birthday bash, again! Only this time, everyone else did too! And it was cool. The ... Read the full blog post...

For Lady's Only, sort of
July 26, 2009
When I went to see the comedian Todd Paul at Hooters a couple of weeks ago, there was a cool warm up act. It was a couple of the guys from Men of X show which happens right after Todd Paul’s show in the same theater. They were awesome dancers and I wanted to go see some more of them. I asked my buddy, Jody, if he wanted to go and he said, “Sure!” So Jody and I met up at Hooters to see the Men of X. What we very quickly realized is that this was no ordinary dance show. This was billed as Burlesque and poor Jody was the one and only guy in the audience. It was all girls in line. They were giddy and excited girls with lots of bosoms showing. I’m afraid I had taken Jody to a ... Read the full blog post...
Helping Todd Paul get into his pants
July 7, 2009
I went to Hooters tonight to show those people what real ones look like. Of course, I took protection, you know, in case they rushed me. Actually, I was going to review the new comic in town, Todd Paul. My buddy from my massage school days, Jody, tagged along to kill some time while he was in town. The local Fox morning news had already been to see this guy. Todd, not Jody, keep up! They had Extreme Amy there in Hooters early one morning a few weeks ago. I was really enjoying this absolute lunatic and what he was putting Amy through over my coffee and morning chain smoking. I was anxious to see this crazy man in person and tonight was the night. Upon entering the theater we were given 3-D glasses. Well, there is a clue this isn’t your average night in ... Read the full blog post...
