Cold November Rain
November 27, 2008
I’m curious as to how many people will get the Guns N’ Roses reference.
Most kids today probably think Izzy Stradlin is a new sexual technique.
Anyway, today … for the first time in a long time, it rained in Las Vegas. I am not talking showers or drizzle, but it downright RAINED for 18 hours straight.
That, my friends, is rare in this town. We get flash floods and hour blasts of all hell breaking loose several times a year, but a full blown rainy day just isn’t common.
And that’s too bad.
This city actually looks the nicest during and immediately after rain storms … especially at night.
It’s not good to actually be out in it. I drove over to the Excalibur today to play a little electronic poker (winning a grand total of 75 cents) and I witnessed more accidents than I care to count. Rain in Las Vegas is like a blizzard anywhere else in the country. The whole city goes into a state of emergency.
I took these pictures within the last hour.
I kind of like the poisonous gas cloud hovering above the MGM. If you saw that anywhere else in the country you would run for your life … assuming that you were about to be engulfed and turned inside out if the giant green blog thing got near you.
Here, it’s just part of the scenery.
No wonder aliens visit Vegas more than any other city in the world.
Anyway, this is the current state of things in Las Vegas.
In my opinion, it’s actually quite nice.

I drove Michaelle to work Thursday morning. She had to start at 5:00AM and we were going to dinner at a friend’s house after. Didn’t want to take two cars to dinner, so I got up with her at 4:00AM and drove her. Just like those photos, the low clouds over the strip reflected a multicolored glow off the various lighting used by the different casinos. First time I saw the Strip in such an eerie glow.
Rather ominous and definitely cool.

I really like the Strip when it is overcast and all the different colors reflect off the clouds.
And yes, I got the Cold November rain reference. I really like the video by GNR especially when Slash gets up on top of the piano and Axel plays away on it. Good stuff
