From my understanding of the law in Nevada, the way it is now, every county in Nevada is allowed to have legalized prostitution, except for those counties that have a population over 200,000 people. And that is only two counties: Washoe (where Reno is) and Clark (where Las Vegas is). Way back when (I think in the 1930s), this caveat was put in there to prevent undesirable elements from flocking to brothels and causing mischief and problems. And these undesirable elements identified at that time were....military. There was a fear that off duty military would pile into brothels en masse, drink up all their liquor, cuss up a storm, defile every wench in sight and generally disturb the peace and good order of the land. Serious "Full Metal Jacket" stuff. Nowadays, this is all kind of overcome by events. Tourists, and not military, probably all do that kinda stuff more than the military, because active duty servicemen gotta be politically correct at all times, or they get slapped severely. I would think for brothels there's more important things to worry about rather than soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines causing hate, discontent and mayhem.

So, those laws still stand. That's why the crackdowns continue. The law is on the books.

Which leads me to my point. You can rant and rave and scream about the police all you want. But they are doing their thing. It's a law and they gotta enforce it. And their "pussy posse" roundups didn't work (as they don't work in any large city...because they're right back out there in the street after bail). So, they are trying to get innovative and identifying the worst ones. The only purpose for this is to get the public involved (including casino security) and to keep them off of the Strip.

And, by the way, as a footnote.... From talking to casino security on the Strip, they all agree there is only one thing that will get rid of the hooks. Rain. When it rains, they disappear. They're like cats. They don't like to get their fur wet.

So, if people are adamant about no hooks on the Strip, pray for some serious rain all the time. But, alas, this is the desert. If you spit about twelve times in a row, that's probably more rain than we get all year.

Anways, I don't know if this is the right way to go about it. So, don't bite my head off. I'm just trying to look at this realistically. But, I guess you have to commend Metro for trying to change the rules around a bit and get others involved in it. Doing that community thing and getting everyone in the mix.

Besides, the police don't have the luxury to pick and choose which laws to enforce and which ones to turn a blind eye to. It's a law and they can't disregard it. They don't operate under, oh, what the hell, we don't agree with this law, we'll do our own moral judgment clause on this, you hookers can ply your business all you want anywhere you want, we'll do something else. They can't operate like that. Just one of them things.

So, the logical thing is to change the laws around to include ALL of Nevada. That would fix that portion. But I still think they would have illegal prostitution problems here. The Strip is too much of a lure for the criminal element.

But then again, maybe keith up above there has the right idea in his comment about Rex becoming Mayor. I'll vote for Rex and let him figger this crap out later.....

i was just thinking why Clark county doesn't legalize prostitution, have brothels on the Strip, and tax the crap out of it...then it dawned on me - does Nye county collect taxes on the brothels? If so, i wonder if they pay a kickback to Clark county to keep them from legalizing prostitution. If it's legal on the strip, people would have no reason to drive to Nye and it would deny them what is probably their main source of public funding (depending on whether or not they tax the brothels).

Makes sense, in a conspiracy/old-school-mob-run-kickback vegas kind of way.

I say when Rex becomes mayor that he figure a way to legalize prostitution in Clark Co.

Or at least get a cut of that vig to fuel his poker budget.

Once I got talking to a guy who delivered a mattress I had purchased. He told me that he had come into a large sum of money, 160K or something like that. In six months he had spent it all in the strip clubs. Contrary to what Chris Rock says, he WAS getting laid in the champagne rooms. Often paying for 2 women at a time. He said his most expensive time was with the blonde that was often featured on the Sh**ri's Cabaret billboards. He said he dropped 14k on her in one night. I asked him why he just didn't hire regular escorts as that would be cheaper, he said he tried it but it was not the same for him. He was telling me all this with a smile on his face, he didn't seem to have any regrets. He wasn't a bad looking guy either, but his teeth were all messed up, I kinda wondered why he didn't spend a few grand getting his teeth fixed.

Beautiful women are the coin of the realm and the blatant display of low-quality merchadise debases the currency.
Casinos want men to pursue the coin of the realm via the usual substitutes: chocolate, alcohol, dinners, preening. The casinos don't want the coin of the realm debased because that also debases the substitutes. What man would preen for a half-naked woman via a stack of black chips if one white chip could get him what he wanted from a fully naked flatbacker?

I saw what to me as a 20 year resident was the most blatant undercover cop trolling as a hooker last Friday. She was wearing a black ho dress you only see in movies near Charleston and LVB. She was pretty, fit, young oh and a white girl. All signs of a woman who would ply her trade online or in a casino bar, nowhere near the hood. So it does seem like they are stepping it up as I have never seen a decoy over there.

Prostitution busts are all about police statistics. Busting a ho, or a john, is easy, fast and safe. It pumps up the number of 'pops' per day that the brass can point to in order to justify their positions.

A lot of the high-level 'management level' positions (aka concigliare) in Clark County are filled by Mormon men--who are deluded into thinking that what they are doing is 'helping society.' A lot of them are probably buying the poon (or sausage) on the side, or are receiving large gratuities from the syndicates that are running the local poon franchises.

These media busts will do as much for reducing prostitution in Vegas as the media drug busts do for reducing the amount of narcotics available. Notgonnahappen.

Just taking a break from vacation, and enjoyed your prostitution story.

Some years back I was visiting in California with a Deputy I knew. On a tour of his station I came upon a STROLL AREA list on a wall. He explained that hookers on probation were banned from the area known for STROLLING for busniess. That is the first time I had ever came across any such notice. When probation was over mug shots were posted of "Guess who's back to work".
