Rex, I’m a big Nugget fan, but telling me that the $5 poolside table you were at was of the 6-5 ilk was depressing.

I’d go with the Nugget. I’ve stayed at both within the last two years. Both are great values and most everyone seems to be giving the trop props for trying. The pool at the Trop is nicer but there is so much more to do within walking distance of the GN. The tiebreaker is the 70s bands downtown this summer and the ease of walking around downtown.

Nugget pool is nice but they tend to pack you in like sardines, no room for books, ipods etc etc.

Just did 5 nights last week at the Fitz on the 33rd floor, elevators sometimes got the blood flowing thats for sure.

Rex – has either properties PR people contacted you yet? If they know that you’re contemplating between the 2 I’d think at least one of them would try to get your business along w/ the free publicity via your sites. If no one has contacted you from Tropicana or Nugget, then they are really incompetent and don’t know how to do their job. I’d be pissed if I found out my own PR people didn’t try to get your business.

If they’re real gamblers, stay downtown. If they’re into glitz and glamour,put um on the strip. (by the way, the Fremont has a cheap,kick-ass breakfast buffet)

I just got back from staying a few nights in the Rush Tower and it was great. Nice room, good view and can’t beat that pool. I’ll be looking forward to your overview of the Trop, though. Pehaps I’ll consider staying there in the future, depending.

I stayed in the Rush Tower a few times and really enjoyed it. They’re terrific rooms, and unless your relatives are absolutely set on staying on the strip I’d tell them to book at the Golden Nugget.

The Trop is making impressive progress from what I have seen on my brief walk-throughs, but there is a long way to go.

You’ll never last at the Nugget. These are the people who kicked me out of the casino on a Thursday night (or Friday morning) at 2:00 am for saying “fuck” at a blackjack table while Karen was betting $500/hand.

I guess a place needs to have priorities.

Nugget. Trop is still renovating, and no way to know where the place will be in the process when your visitors arrive. Place might be removing the Tiffany ceiling in the casino at the point, and that will be disruptive.

And unless there is a lucky break in the weather, it will be hotter than hades. DT offers a bit of canopy shade by day, and short distances between properties, so roaming is doable, even in the heat. At the Trop, it’s a ways just to get to neighboring casinos. Not a problem when it’s not blazing, but miserable if it is.
