Conforming – Totally Against My Will
November 10, 2009
I played a little blackjack tonight. No, I’m too cheap to drive down to the Vegas Strip. Hey, the whole environment is set up against you! I played online. There is this little teaching blackjack game on this site. Here is the link to it: blackjack trainer.
This handy little thing teaches you as you play, which is pretty cool. It gives you a choice of easy, medium or hard. So I took hard. What the hell, it’s free money, right?
After each move you make, if it thinks it has a better move it will let you change your mind and to go with the computer’s suggestion. Sometimes I went with the computer and sometimes I just stuck to what I know… which is pretty much nothing. Sometimes that strategy paid off. I’m such a rebel.
So I’ve been playing for probably ten minutes or so and I haven’t gone broke yet. So I just played a little more. I’m down to one measly dollar. Am I going to go to the poor house? Hang on. Click…
Oh, man. I went to the poor house. I actually did better than I thought I would. I didn’t think I knew how to play, but I guess I do. According to my statistics of 60%, it appears I just don’t ever take advice. Hm, where have I heard that before?
Okay, okay, I’ve gotta do this again. I love how it just hands me over another $500 to play blackjack again.
Wohoo! I’m up to $600… for not taking advice. HA! Now $800 and still not taking advice.
I don’t like that word ‘push’. That is a sucky word because it doesn’t give me any money. “Bust” is an okay word, I’ve got one of those.
Is it just me, or does everyone groan loudly when the hand is 16? What the hell do you do with a 16? I didn’t like being 16 and I don’t like seeing it in front of me for blackjack. Sixteen can just go to hell. When I’m queen, there will be no such number. I will have it stricken from the earth. Yeah, that’s what I’ll do.
I’m down to $700 and my stats for the right choice is at 63%. Come on, birdie needs a new parrot perch. Wohoo! Up to $800.
I’m not so sure I get this statistic thing that is going on with this game. I guess it shows how often you follow the suggestions, not how often you’re picking right and ignoring the suggestions. The suggestions seem to be the standard blackjack norm on how to play. The stuff it is telling me is stuff blackjack players have told me before also.
If you’re a rule follower, which I’m not, I guess it is in your best interest to follow what the computer says because the odds are in your favor. I don’t like living by the odds, though. I like to live wild and bet wild because a wild and crazy win is just so much tastier, don’t you think?
Wouldn’t you rather do something completely ridiculous and win big? Now, isn’t that more fun than doing all that math and following rules? I think so.
On the other hand, my statistics are about 70% now. Hmm, oh, my God, I’m beginning to conform! Say it isn’t so! Computer! You take that back! I hope the rest of my life doesn’t catch this conformity. Next thing you know I’ll be in a successful relationship, walking down the isle and living quietly every after. Nooooo!
Okay, back to the game. Now I’m soured on the whole thing because of all this following the ‘rules.’ Maybe I’ll go get in the bloggermobile and drive fast or something to make up for it… Anyway, if you click the word ‘blackjack’ up at the top of the page in the headers it’ll take you to a page that explains all about blackjack and give you some strategies and stuff. It also explains some variations in the games that you see in the casinos. Variations of blackjack are something else I don’t understand and refuse to learn. It sort of reminds me of all that fake Star Trek that followed the original series. Not going to do it!
Where is the cash out button on this computer? See ya later.
