Research those rooms before you book

February 2, 2009

When staying in Las Vegas, you need to do a little research. Probably the worst thing you can do is to just drive here and plunk yourself down at the counter and ask for a room. You are going to pay dearly for that, I’m afraid.

So plan ahead. I used to use the TripAdvisor website a lot and read a lot of reviews on hotels when I used to come here to visit. So I would balance the budget against the reviews and then book online.

Today I had a new idea! Youtube. Yep, people do videos of the rooms they stay in and then put them up on youtube! Who knew? It is totally cool. You can actually tour the rooms online and decide where you want to sleep.

There will always be some variation between the room you get and the room they got, but you get a pretty good idea about the hotel by watching these videos. When they say they stayed in a Wynn Tower room, this is not the same as a standard room. Those will be completely different. So you need to pay attention to those little details.

There are an awful lot of good deals going on these days in Vegas and it is possible you’ll pay the same rate for a snazzy room with great service as you will for an offbeat room downtown.

If you want to get great deals, sign up for all the casino’s mailing lists for the places you like. They will send you their specials right in to your email in box. You probably won’t find some of those great deals on their websites.

Also, when you’re in Las Vegas, always sign up for whatever player’s card they have. That will likely get you even better specials and comps sent to you.

So here are some videos I snagged for you to take a look at so you can see the difference in the rooms.

First, the Luxor. Good grief, the guy couldn’t put a shirt on?? That is just not attractive. Anyway, here is his room review:

Now, New York New York:

A room at the Bellagio:

The Venetian:

Now let’s go downtown, and do the Plaza:

And the Golden Nugget:

And then back to the strip to see one awesome Tower Suite at the Wynn:

Have fun planning your trip!
