Feat Buffet at Green Valley Ranch

Feat Buffet at Green Valley Ranch

I don’t often get out to Green Valley Ranch, but I did yesterday to have dinner with some friends who were in town from Los Angeles.  We’ve eaten at the buffet there before, but I didn’t write about it.  So now I am!

We got there early mainly to avoid the lines, and well, because we’re kind of old and that’s what kind of old people do.  Arriving about 5pm we avoided the line.  I think there was maybe one person ahead of us.  It worked great.  Price of admission is $19.95, for dinner.

The buffet there is really nicely laid out.  It is very spacious, unlike the Wynn and Bellagio.  The seating areas are sectioned off from each other but more with pillars and stations, making a good use of space but you don’t feel like you’re in a little spot. This is a big room with plenty of stations in one long line to choose from.  They have all the usual eats like Chinese, Italian, and a carving station.  One unusual thing they have there is a Mongolian barbecue.  So if you want your food super duper fresh, you can have it cooked right there on the spot.

I went back three times.  I was trying to go easy because I just can’t pack in the food anymore.  I always want to try a zillion things but just don’t have the stomach for it by round number two.  This time I just picked a little of this and that in order to keep going.

I had a difficult time finding beef this time.  It was mostly pork, shrimp and crab it seemed.  Eventually my friend informed me that the tenderloin was actually beef and not pork.  Who ever heard of beef tenderloin??  My friends had some and were having a difficult time sawing it through it.  They insisted that once it was in your mouth it just melted in there.  So I watched them struggling with cutting it.  I offered to go ask for a chainsaw for them.  Still, they insisted it was quite good.  Hmm.  Okay, I’ll try it.

As it turns out, if you ask for medium rare, the carving guy will find it for you.  I discovered this by being behind a guy who ordered rare.  I was perfectly set up for medium rare after that.

Mine cut just fine.  So I guess it was a well done problem with my friend’s cut.  I thought it was just okay.  I wouldn’t say ‘melt’.  I think my friends need to order the aged beef at Gallaghers over at New York New York.

The food overall in the Green Valley Ranch was just okay, I thought.  My friend and I had a bit of a tiff over that statement, which I made on Twitter and she discovered it.  She thinks the place is great!  I would put this place after the M Resort, after the Bellagio, and more in line with the Wynn’s buffet.  It is good food, somewhat tasty, décor was nice, the help was adequate and the price was okay.  The selection could be better but was sufficient.

Desserts were much better on this trip than they had been on the prior trip.  Everything I tried was great.  But, like we discussed at the table, it was no M Resort Chocolate Flourless Cake.  They were quite good however.  On the last trip the desserts looked fabulous but didn’t taste fabulous, just okay.  So that was a nice surprise.

When we left, we looked back and saw a pretty long line to get in.  If you’re going to eat there and don’t like long lines, get there early to beat the rush.  The line didn’t look like it was moving at all.  It was about 7pm when we left.

On the way out of the casino we saw this cool looking bar.  It is the Drop Bar.  The purple lighted blocks just outside the place were pretty snazzy.  We were in a hurry to get to our respective homes, so we didn’t go in.

Green Valley Ranch is actually located in Henderson.  I don’t think it is worth a cab ride out there from the Strip.  If you’re staying at the hotel there, or can drive then it might be worth the visit for a good meal.
