Are the StripperMobile's Days Numbered?

November 12, 2009

Déjà Vu, one of the local strip joints, has taken their strippers to the streets. Namely, Las Vegas Boulevard. They built a truck with sort of a glass case on the back of it, stuck a stripper pole in there, tossed in a stripper or two and up and down the Vegas Strip they go. So, you’re going, “Only in Vegas!” Well, not so fast. There are some pretty ticked off people about this one.

First, I have to say, this is one of the best public relations moves I’ve seen anybody do in a long time. Déjà Vu has been getting daily press over this. Our local fox TV station has run a story about it, but they also have this ‘daily rant’ where people can call up or email what has got their goat today and they put it on the news daily. There have been a lot of calls. It has been on CNN and other local channels, and all the news feeds have picked it up. People are talking everyday about it. The only thing I can fault in this move is that it is called ‘strippermobile’ repeatedly on the news and not ‘Déjà Vu Strippermobile.”

Mostly people state they are not happy about this because children will see it. From what I understand, but I could be wrong and I can’t verify because the owner of Déjà Vu has not returned my email yet, this strippermobile is out there after ten o’clock at night. So that just begs the question, “What upright, moral person is dragging their kids down the strip at night?” It is a little difficult to take that one seriously. If you care that much about your kids that you don’t want them to see girls in bikinis dancing on a stripper pole, maybe you should put them to bed at a decent hour? I don’t know, just a thought. Or how about this thought, Don’t Bring Your Damn Kids to Vegas!

I can see it being a traffic hazard. Chicks can drive and look at strippers and not plow into anything. But have you seen men when strippers are in front of them? They sort of go catatonic with a bit of drool hanging from one side of the mouth. So, I’m envisioning some unsuspecting guy driving down the strip trying to dodge cabbies and taking in all the bright lights and he comes up behind the strippermobile. The outcome of that encounter cannot be good. I’m thinking this might be a bit of a traffic hazard.

So, now the County has gotten involved. Which, of course, is going to mean the news has to report on this a whole lot more! Clark County has decided if they don’t put in some guidelines quick then they will have a bunch of strippermobiles going up and down the strip and chicks throwing their panties everywhere. I’m guessing this isn’t so much a decency issue as it is traffic control.

If this issue is of utmost importance to you, which I’m so sure it is, you can show up to the Commission’s meeting on November 17, 2009. They are starting at 7pm. The strippermobile discussion is number 102 on the agenda. Yeah, one hundred and one really important things are before it. They will even allow you to make your comments. You are limited to three minutes and you have to say your name. I’m thinking this puppy could go all night. Because we’re so with it here in fabulous Las Vegas, you can watch the meeting on the internet if you don’t want to go find 500 South Grand Central Parkway in Las Vegas. To watch online go to http://www.accessclarkcounty.com, I guess the feed starts at 6:30pm. Will the religious right show up with picket signs? I’m guessing no, but might be a fun watch if they do.

That’s the way I had it in the first place! But then, there is only one strippermobile. Oh, but many days.. Geeze. You know what? I’m going senile. I’m going to edit that back to ARE.
    Thanks – Pam

    Update:
It looks like the strippermobile is toast. Deja Vu has stopped it becauase of the concerns of the County Commission, the Las Vegas Sun reports this morning. http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2009/nov/14/clubs-want-be-good-citizen/
