My video debut and the Cuba Gooding, Jr. story

March 28, 2009

This is my video debut, much against my will, I might add. Well, okay, when Vegascabbie suggested that we do my interview of him on video, I said, “Cool.” It seemed like the practical thing to do as he is a video blogger in Las Vegas and I’m a blogger. So it makes sense that we’d combine our efforts, sort of a two for one deal. When it came down to me being in the video, I was a big chicken. We drove around the neighborhood for a while so I could get used to a camera pointed at me.

I don’t like the way I look, don’t care for my voice, and well, I’m just generally self conscious. VegasCabbie, on the other hand, is on camera just like he always is, fun and comfortable. You’d think he was born on video. He’s quite the talker and the easiest interview I’ve ever done. I ask a simple question and he answers with a novel. It is great.
See my original article here.

I did have a lot of fun doing this video with him. When I asked him for an interview I had no idea what a personality he is. I was following him on Twitter and it just seemed to me that an interview with a cab driver in Vegas was a good story. I knew he did podcasting, but I didn’t want to watch his podcasts before my interview with him. I don’t like to watch or read certain things because it will influence what I will do or write. I get to the interviewee’s writing and podcasts after I do my story so I don’t end up following their style or copying what they do and say. Just my little quirk. So when I got home I watched some of his podcasts. Oh, what a hoot this guy is. TheVegasCabbie.com

VegasCabbie gives a lot of good information on what is like being a cab driver in Las Vegas, the ins and out of tipping a cabbie, and explains that tunneling thing you have heard about or experienced in a Las Vegas cab.

After much ‘nagging’ as he calls it, he finally got the video done and uploaded. So now I can post it. Of course he uploaded it in the middle of the night and started sending me tweets asking if I’d seen it yet. Pay backs are a bitch.

The last part of the video is his story on Cuba Gooding, Jr, which is pretty funny. I make no attempt to repeat this story, you have to watch him tell it. I’m sure he has a hundred stories like this with all the famous people he has as fares, but there is only so much time for video. We’ll have to do some more in the future.

He mentions my bird at the end. He met the bird when he picked me up for the interview. My bird is Echo, an African Grey parrot, fell in love with VegasCabbie. Echo was making a bunch of chicken noises for him. I think VegasCabbie was impressed. haha Echo is fairly fickle and fell in love with the sprinkler repair guy the following day so… so much for true love.

So, here it is, my video debut, scared to death and bearing a striking resemblance to Dame Edna. Getting old is a bitch…

If you want to hire VegasCabbie for a ride around Vegas, his phone number is: 702-845-5788. He works noon to midnight or 2pm – 2am, depending on the day. I’m sure there are lots of great cab drivers in Vegas, but there are some rotten apples too. This one is a good one and you can just call him up and tell him to come get you, which makes it easier. He’s got the Pam stamp of approval. That and a cup of coffee will get you a cup of coffee.
