The Doors Tribute and strip photos
May 25, 2009
Saturday night was just too much fun with the Guess Who playing for free, and the Memorial Day celebration. Fremont Street, Downtown, Las Vegas was packed.
I took some photos of the strip before I went downtown. I was up top of the Mirage parking lot. I didn’t want to be way up there, but I got one of the few parking spaces left. And that was still early in the night. The strip was packed, as was Downtown.
I took a lot of video that night. I would have liked to have recorded just about the entire Guess Who show, but I only carry around so many little memory cards for the camera. It sure was a nice change to the tribute bands they’ve been having, to say the least.
There was one tribute band there on the other stage though. I don’t know what this guy was on, if anything. They were doing the Doors, and the lead singer was pretty much playing the part. He was so thin that I feared he would blow away in the wind. He acted pretty messed up. Maybe it was an act. Maybe it was just a tad too much heroin. It actually bothered me to watch him.
The Go-Go dancer in the band was a lot like him. She did this same dance the entire time I was there. Does the chick’s skirt really need to be that short? Come on! Some of my shirts are a lot longer than that. I am so not interested in how recently she did her Brazilian wax. Hooker, and heroin chic, well, whatever. The band was good, at least their music was. The performance made me fairly uncomfortable. That is probably my own issue. When I see drug use, it sort of makes my skin crawl from bad memories. My deal, I suppose. Maybe nobody else even noticed.
While the Guess Who took a break, they played the Queen light show on the canopy. People were so in to it that night. They were waving their little Fremont Street issued American Flags high in the air. I saw more long hair on guys this weekend than I have seen in years. It was great. There were so many people my age there. I was loving it.
I don’t know what it is about Queen. I like them more so much better now than when Freddie Mercury was alive. Funny how you enjoy something a lot more when you’re older. Things change, I suppose. I know that overhead light show they do of Queen is a really popular one. Everyone sings along and sways to the music blasting out of the speakers.
Where ever you were this weekend, I hope that you had as good of a time as we had here in Las Vegas. It was quite a weekend. If you weren’t here, be sure to visit some time this summer. It is a good one this year!
