Date Set For iMEGA's Case Against The UIGEA

Thursday, Jun 25, 2009 | By CasinoGuide

On July 7th, the U.S. 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals will hear oral arguments from lawyers that represent the Interactive Media Entertainment & Gaming Association (iMEGA) and the U.S. Department of Justice.

This comes as part of a court challenge by iMEGA against the UIGEA and both sides will get the chance to bring their arguments at 10 am on July 7th at the U.S. courthouse in Philadelphia.

The iMEGA will be represented by Eric Bernstein and Stephen Saltzburg, a professor at the George Washington University school of law. As for the U.S. Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission and the Federal Reserve, they will be represented by Nicholas Bagley and Jacqueline Coleman.

There isn't much more that we can say about the UIGEA that has not been said already. It has been criticized by senators, condemned by the EU and it is being fought heavily by U.S. Rep. Barney Frank. So now iMEGA will join in the fight and they are confident about the outcome.

Said iMEGA Chairman Joe Brennan Jr :"This law will finally have to stand on its own two feet in court, free from politics and all other outside influences. We feel very confident that when the judges take a look at the law, they will see just how defective it is, and they will overturn it."

Let's hope then that the iMEGA has as much success fighting this as they did against the Minnesota AGED. To say that the industry needs it is an understatement.
