European Blackjack is almost identical to traditional Blackjack. In fact, it only has one major rule tweak, but it is a doozy- the dealer is initially only dealt one card. So how does that play into the rules and your strategy? Read on to find out.

How to Play European Blackjack

  • Dealer is dealt only one card initially. The second card is not dealt until all players finish with their hands.

  • Each player is dealt two cards, both face up.

  • Dealer must stand on a 17

  • Six decks are used

  • Decks are shuffled after every game

  • You may not re-split a split hand

  • You may double after splitting a hand

  • Insurance is offered on 2:1 odds

Tips for Playing European Blackjack

  • As always, the insurance side bet is not recommended due to high house odds

  • Play surrender rules when available

  • Only increase bets when you are winning
