About Our Free Blackjack Game

Why even bother to play free online black jack?

Online blackjack is one of those rare casino games in which you can significantly affect the House edge. Online blackjack is also easy to learn and play so sharpen your skills in the flash game and you can get started quickly. By using the correct strategy you will stand much better chances to win on blackjack.

Starting Out in Blackjack

Just as with the live version of blackjack, your objective is to get as close to 21 as you can without going over. If you can get closer than the dealer can, you win even money on your bet. You start with two cards and hit as often as you want, trying to reach 21. As soon as you go over though, you lose the hand.

If you wish, you can double, doubling your bet and getting only one additional card. If your cards are the same value, you can split, with each card part of a new hand and a separate wager. If you are dealt an ace and a ten point card (all cards are worth face value, face cards are all worth 10 and aces are worth one or 11), you have blackjack and win 3-2 on your money automatically.

If you suspect the dealer has blackjack and he has an ace showing, you can buy insurance. This costs an additional half bet. If the dealer has black jack, you break even regardless of your total. That is, unless you also have blackjack, which means you get an even money payoff. If the dealer does not have blackjack, you lose the insurance bet.

You can buy insurance when playing free blackjack games – it won’t cost you anything. However, never do it in a real-money game. The odds are always against your money on that move.

When to Split in Black Jack

You will usually split if you have two cards which are weak together, but can be powerful as part of another hand. For example, if you have two aces, your hand is a weak 12. However, if you split them and get two tens, you will have two 21s.

When to Double

You will double if you have a hand that can become very strong if a ten point card comes, or if you are against a weak dealer card and in no danger of busting. For example, you will always double an 11 unless you are against an ace because so many cards can give you 21.

However, you will also double a soft 16 (soft means the hand has an ace so you cannot bust, in this case, A5) against a dealer 6 because the dealer has a good chance of busting and you want more money up when he does.
