Judge Rules 888 To Be Blocked in Buenos Aires

An Argentine judge in Buenos Aires has ruled that 888.com's website should be blocked for the residents of the South American city. The decision was made because the websites violates the local gambling laws in the Argentine capital.

The ruling was made by municipal prosecutor Luis Duacastella Arbizu and was published in the Buenos Aires government's official journal at the end of March. Arbizu considered that 888.com's website violates articles 116, 117 and 118 of the Buenos Aires 'Contravention Code'. This code specifically prohibits the local operation and or promotion of gambling services without a gambling license.

Arbizu's ruling requires that 888.com and 888.com.ar are to be blocked for Buenos Aires residents. 888 was then given a 48-hour window to take the necessary measures to prevent the Argentine residents from accessing these sites.

The 888 brand offers players an online poker room, sports betting, bingo and also the popular 888.com Casino.

This decision comes right on the heels of the announcement last month that the Aussie government was planning to block certain poker and gambling websites.

The other big news item recently regarding online gaming regulation and censoraship was that U.S. Rep. Barney Frank was going to introduce his pro-gambling bill to Congerss last Monday (April 20th). The aim of course is to set up a framework that would regulate and tax online gaming, which would also open the market back up to the U.S. citizens who now aren't allowed to play at certain casino or poker rooms.

As soon as there's any more news on Mr. Frank's fight against the UIGEA, we'll immediately have it here for you on CasinoGuide.
