November Nine - Who Wins WSOP 2008?

Who's going to win? That's what everyone wants to know as the November Nine gets ready to play the final table of the World Series of Poker main event.

Who will follow in the footsteps of Jerry Yang, Jamie Gold, Joe Hachem and the rest as poker's world champion? Who you think will win may depend on your perspective.

Potential Winners of the WSOP by Experience

Some people may feel that the most experienced player is the one most likely to win the main event. If this is the case, Ylon Schwartz, with 11 World Series of Poker cashes to his credit, may be the choice. Kelly Kim, with over 30 poker cashes since 2005, is also an experienced tournament pro, but his short stack may do him in.

Potential Winners of the WSOP by Age

If age is the determining factor, Dennis Phillips, at 53, is the oldest of the November Nine participants and may be best suited to handle the pressures associated with such a big event. On the other end of the spectrum, some may feel that the younger players have the advantage. By this measure, Peter Eastgate, at 22, or Craig Marquis at 23, may be the ones to watch.

Either player would be the youngest main event winner in history, besting Phil Hellmuth at 24. Unlike Hellmuth, however, today's players can get years of poker experience before their 21st birthdays by playing online.

Potential Winners of the WSOP by Chip Count

Again, Dennis Phillips wins if we try to call the event by chip count. Phillips has 26,295,000 chips going into the final table. With that said, Ivan Demidov, with 24,400,000 chips is not far behind, and given the current size of the blinds and antes, the chip leader could easily change with one pot.

The real challenge will be to Kelly Kim. Kim has only 2,620,000 in chips, which sounds like a lot, but it is less than five rounds of blinds and antes. Kim will need to get his chips in early and get lucky if he is to have any home of taking down this title.
