If there's one group all poker players wish to become part of, it's definitely the World Series of Poker Main Event champions. Now we can add Peter Eastgate to that list. An hour ago, he became the youngest champion ever.
Poker history is written! Peter Eastgate cracked Phil Hellmuths 19-yoear-old record of being the youngest main event winner ever. This 22 year old accountant hailing from Denmark beat Hellmuth's previous record with 2 years.
But age is nothing but a number. In this story another number is far more important, namely $9,152, 416, which was the prize money Eastgate managed to rake in.
Last Hand - WSOP 2008 Main Event
Eastgate limps in from the button and his heads-up opponent Ivan Demidov checks his option.
Flop comes: 2s-Kc-3h. Demidov checks, Eastgate bets 1.25 million, Demidov calls
Turn comes: 4c
Demidov checks once again and Eastgate bets out 2 million. Demidov decides to raise it up to 6 million and more or less comit himself to the pot. Eastgate calls.
River comes: 7s
Demidov announces all in and Eastgate call instantly. First Demidov shows 4h-2h for two pair but Eastgate caught a wheel on the turn with his Ad-5s.
The longest WSOP Main Event is now over - it lasted four months - although with a rather long dinner break before the final table.
