Phil Ivey is one of the greatest poker players of all time and with his second-place finish at the 2010 Aussie Millions $100K Challenge Tournament he managed to surpass Daniel 'Kid Poker' Negreanu for the top spot on the all-time money list.
Aussie Millions $100K Challenge
With his second-place finish in the prestigious Aussie Millions event Phil Ivey took down a not too shabby $600,000. This $600K cash check boosted his total life-time live poker tournament earnings to a mind-boggling $12,802,783. Enough to beat former record-holder Daniel Negreanu to the punch with a difference of almost $400K.
The Heads-Up Battle
Phil Ivey took it up against Dan Shak in the heads-up battle, a player who earlier busted top poker pros Tony G and Barry Greenstein. When Shak moved all-in with A7 he had Ivey covered, but Ivey didn't hesitate for a moment and snap-called with AT. Shak got lucky on the flop when a 7 hit the felt, and this hand brought him the victory and $1.2 million in cold hard cash.
Although his opponent lucked out on him there's absolutely no need to feel sorry for Phil Ivey. He currently is the youngest player to have ever won seven Word Series of Poker bracelets and now also is the one and only leader on the all-time money list. Next to this he made it to the final table at seven World Poker Tour events and won one WPT Title.
