'When in America, do as the Romans' might very well be the credo at the Costa Rica-based Rome Casino. Last week Rome Casino was gutsily promoting itself as being the only online casino allowing its players to deposit using an American Express credit card.
Warm Welcome for US Players
Rome Casino has never made a secret of its goal to tap into the US online gambling market, and has always welcomed American citizens to its by now well-established virtual casino. With the offering of American Express cards as a legitimate deposit method, Rome Casino seeks to further cater to the demands of this large target group.
American Express
American Express, however, seems to be far from content with the current state of affairs, as the firm policy states that American Express cards may not be accepted for either online or offline gambling .
The VP of Corporate Affairs and Communications, Christine Elliot, has taken legal measures: "American Express has sent legal notification to RomeCasino.com that it is not authorized to accept the American Express Card and is not authorized to use our marks."
Rome Casino Going Strong
In the meantime Rome Casino doesn't seem to be all too worried about the legal threats uttered by American Express. As the American Express logo still features on the Rome Casino website, and neither the casino operator nor software provider Top Game have responded, it seems like Rome Casino has found a way to outsmart the people at American Express.
