PokerStars Sets Another World Record

PokerStars Sets Another World Record

Monday, Jan 4, 2010 | By CasinoGuide

PokerStars ended their year with a bang by setting a new Guinness World Record for the number of players participating in a virtual tournament. The total of 149,196 competing players more than doubled the previous record which they held themselves.

More Than Double
The leading poker site set a record with 35,000 players back in December of 2008. They then shattered that record by hosting a tournament with 65,000 players back in July of 2009. That total was more than doubled now as 149,196 players entered the $1 buy-in tournament, a tournament which had a total prize pool of $300,000 and a top prize of $50,000.

Big Prizes
The tournament took just under 6 hours to complete and in the end it was 'oskar69' that took home the massive first prize. 'Bommel222' got $30,000 for finishing second while 'TLWPB' won $20,000 for finishing third.

"Congratulations to 'oskar69' and all of the 30,000 players who cashed this evening and thank you for setting yet another Guinness Book Of World Records record here at PokerStars.com," read a statement from the poker giants.

Team PokerStars
PokerStars also made news recently when they added 23 players from 18 different countries to team PokerStars Online. Members will be able to track them as they play the different game types and stakes over at pokerstars.com.
