WSOP 2008 Main Event down to Heads-up

WSOP 2008 Main Event down to Heads-up

Monday, Nov 10, 2008 | By CasinoGuide

The crowd gave Dennis Phillips, the last American in the tournament, a standing ovation when he went out in third place. He failed to bluff Eastgate, who had bottom set, and now main event is down to heads-up play.

This year's main event title will either go to Russia or Denmark. Current chip leader is Ivan Demidov with 79,500,000 in chips, but Peter Eastgate isn't far behind with his 57,725,000.

If Eastgate, 22, manages to go all the way, he becomes the youngest champion ever, cracking Phil Hellmuth's record from 1989. But to do that he must beat Demidov, who is in the streak of his lifetime.

While Demidov was waiting for the WSOP Main Event final table to start he made a quick stop at the WSOP tournament in London. His rush took him all the way to the third place and he could add a little over $600,000 to his bankroll.

What a year this is for the young Russian.

Tonight we crown the WSOP 2008 Main Event Champion.
